In todays video we head out looking to do some jigging for halibut. We jig on a deeper shelf and end up finding some really nice fish. Jigging for these halibut was way too much fun on the spinning setups. Conventional setups would work great too. Using the "vibes" squidtrex and vertrex, have us never wanting to troll for halibut again. Its a really fun bite, and fun way to catch them. Thanks f...

DONE 👌👍
Oh, you did a phenomenal job!!! And the results are speaking louder for themselves! Would you mind to help us with some questions? We bought last hear an already converted boat, but the motor slips constantly and it seems to suck the air from the surface. Now we're waiting for the saison end and looking for infos... So here the questions: Did you guys measure the height between ventilation plate and bottom point of the boat (what's the height?)? How far does the motor sit from transom or simplier, how long is your bracket? What were the rules to put the bracket on and does it touch the water, when you're riding (on plane and not)? Appreciate your time very much!!! TY!! And wish you to always find the best fish ;)
Congratulations on your marriage Dustin! -this is kelsey, Lisa's son
When you tip the end of that jig heck yeah they do !
Where in the northern pacific do you catch the octopus
I’m not sure of people that target them, it happens more by accident. I think you can catch them all along the California coast line up into Oregon and Washington
Ok
I like it
Thanks !!
You boys are putting in work 🤙💯🔥one day I’ll get to rip some tuna lips lol
Thanks man! It was an epic day. Hopefully you get to tug on some tuna soon 🎣🎣🎣
I'm amazed by how fast you're trolling. It must be an amazing experience, if nothing else, just being out on the ocean. I didn't have much luck fishing, but I love being out on the ocean in a boat.
It’s wild how fast the tuna will eat. Some guys troll even faster for wahoo. Wild stuff. It’s the best being out on the ocean even if you don’t catch anything!
Fish dint have vocal chords. Tjey cant scream
Boiled the octopus on a pine board 🛹 then smoked it after that we ate the board and threw the octopus away😅
Make some tako tacos next time.
We will have to try that next time!
Looks amazing nice job
Thanks!!
Dammmm that octopussy looks sooooo good n flavorful
That octopus was delicious!
You guys on the hook or drifting?
We caught them drifting. We used the kicker to slow us down a bit our drift was fairly fast
Alcatraz in background
Yes sir 😎
Love when the graph is stuffed like that.
Oh yeah! It makes it fun when they up in the water column. We went out again last weekend and had another awesome day.
Good info fellas. I dig that you’re not hyping useless stuff and just helping dudes get into the fight. 🤘🏻🍻
Thanks man! We want to help our people. All of our subs are super cool, they come talk to us at the dock, all good people. We were out there struggling the first time around and wanted to show people what we learned out there.
Wow. Beautiful octopus. Good eating too. I usually put some fish sauce to rhe marinated it tasted pretty good.
Thanks Thuy! It was delicious, it wasn’t the giant halibut we wanted but we will take it! Haha. The fish sauce marinade sounds good too. If we get the chance to catch another one we will have to try that 🦑
cool trip, i like octopus when i have bought it in Hawaii, that looked really good.
Thanks Chris! It was delicious!
Halibut is my favorite to catch and favorite to eat. ~30-50 pounders are seriously tasty. Anything over 60, I just release it
Those are some big ones! We don’t get the big Pacifics down here. But the California halibut sure are tasty
Nice hali👏🎣On my bucket list👍
Love em! They are some good eating 👍

Beautiful catch! Alcatraz in the Amazing background. - Nomad Design SQUIDTREX
Thanks man! It was a sweet background!!
0:24 Has Alcatraz the gaff and the fish. All in 1 photo of the SQUIDTREX hanging out of the halibut.
Thats pretty cool when you think about it! i am sure theres alot of people that didnt even notice!
@DDFishingCo Poetry in motion! You are truly blessed, my brother.
Thanks man!
That’s right off Alcatraz right?
No the big prison island behind it is not Alcatraz. You must be pretty good at geolocate.
@@_Tarzak never played the game but I couldn’t imagine being any good if I got that one wrong
@@ADMartinGolf I was being a sarcastic butt hole lol Yes that is Alcatraz!! Good eye!
@@_Tarzak the joke went right over my head lol.
Alcatraz is right! Haha
We dont have those down in Florida, we got the flounder though, super delicious white meat. Deep fried fish sticks. I caught a big one fishing for trout. I let it hit the bottom, started to flip and i thought it was a hugh trout, but nope, ol side eyes. I need to come up north and do some fishing.
That’s awesome, I heard they call them fluke too over in the east coast. They are some tasty fish!!
We call then flounder in Australia
Halibut and flounder are two different fish. They are both bottom feeders, but they are different species.
How big are more of a tougher meat, and flounder are more of a flaky light meat. But halibut are one of the fish that has less oils less fatty fish. The more you know.
There are so many different species and names. I have heard they are called fluke on the united states east coast. These are California halibut which are more like flounder compared to its big brother the Pacific and Atlantic halibut.
Yo why did you drop in the water control was the hot drop
What?
Great video, thanks for sharing. For halibut, do you fish around a particular tide? I have heard some people say they fish an incoming tide so the halibut can see in clearer water and I’ve also heard people say they fish an outgoing tide for the warmer water? Do you guys have a preference or just fish on your days off work, whenever you get a chance? Also, I really like to see what gear you are finishing with, thanks.
Thanks man! We typically fish when we can. We prefer slower moving tides for the halibut, big tides are usually tough. If we have a big tide, we focus on the first hour or last hour of the tide since it slows down. In this video we are using slow pitch jigging rods, regular jig rods would be ok too, as long as they arent super super heavy. This rod does have a nice tip and loads up well on the fish.
@@DDFishingCo thanks
What kinda rod specs you running for jigging those in the bay?
We were using slow pitch jog rods in this video. I would get some kind of jig rod that could handle the weight of the jig you are using. These rods have a nice tip where they load up really good without being too heavy on the fish. We were using 3.25oz jigs. The rods we ran were rated from 2-9oz. We could probably run a little lighter even, something 1-4 or 2-6 oz would be ok too.
Would you suggest SF bay or Monterrey Bay for rockfish ? and any good spots from shore ?
Hmm if I was going from shore, I think there are more spots down in Monterey from the shore. But if you go up past SF and hit the Sonoma coast line and Mendocino coast line there is great rock fishing from the shore.
@@DDFishingCo thanks for the info ! Ima hit up Monterey this weekend
Nice fish!
Thanks man!
looks like a big ass flounder !!
Halibut and flounder look a lot alike!
You trolling with the squidtrex or just jigging with it?
For the halibut we are jigging it but you can use them to troll for other species
@DDFishingCo nice, they hit on white and pink? Down in socal white and pink is the jam for Surf halibut
We haven't tried it for halibut but we have caught rockfish on the white and pink. I am sure it works really good!
What's the difference between a Halibut and a Flounder?
Halibut is bigger on west coast. Get up to 150+ up in Alaska and pudget sound
That’s right, up in Alaska they get giant!
Dope!
Thanks man🙌

What size squidtrex did you guys use?
130 size for this application
@@DDFishingCo thanks for the info gonna have to try it out
You got it! Good luck using them, they are so versatile. You’ll love them
Happened to me before 😂😂
Haha they will get you if you don't pay attention haha
Those are weird fish
Flat fish! There are several in the family of flat fish. Flounder, Fluke, Pacific Halibut, California Halibut
Wow, what a catch!
Thanks!!
That’s big?
For California Halibut it’s big.. they are a different species of halibut than pacific halibut which get much bigger
In the bay!? Niiice
Yep in the bay. We caught jigging, it was a blast!
What distances you did troll those
We try to make a reverse "V" shape towards the boat. The farthest rod down the center, then the next rods would be a little closer, the closest rods are right off the side of the boat in very close to the prop wash. Our distances vary, we do it by eye really. Albacore come and eat in the prop wash. If I had to guess I would say the closest rods are 40-50ft. and the farthest rods are 200-300ft maybe?
@@DDFishingCo thnx alot ..have fun
Thanks!!
